The paper focuses on a general nonstationary problem of the analysis of wave processes in layered media. This problem arises in many applications and typical examples include situations where such media consist of different material layers, e.g. piezodielectric-semiconductor, semiconductor-dielectric, etc. In this paper, two mathematical formulations of this problem have been analysed in detail, namely the formulation in deformation and the formulation in displacement. For the numerical solution of the problem, explicit difference schemes have been constructed and their stability conditions have been derived.
